Avoid Code Violations
Staying compliant and up to code with your fire prevention systems is not only the law, but it keeps your people safe and your business open. In some cases, if your business is found in violation of a number of FDNY or NFPA codes, you can be shut down. In other cases, like your fire extinguishers, you can inspect them yourself while we do the annual maintenance.
If you’re not sure whether or not you’re in violation, it’s a good idea to call us. Our experienced and certified crews know what to look for and how to keep your business compliant. Call us today with your questions or to set up an appointment at (718) 628-6500.
Fire Extinguisher Maintenance
By law, your fire extinguishers must be kept in compliance so certified maintenance should be conducted regularly. An internal maintenance inspection should be done once every five, six or 12 years, depending on the type of equipment and set up you have. Metro Fire Control will inspect all the extinguishers in your place of business and make sure they are kept up to code.
Keep in mind, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends fire extinguishers are inspected each month by the user. This can be done by making sure the extinguisher is still in its designated location, is located in a place without obstruction and has not been damaged in any way.
Fire Suppression Inspections
Metro Fire Control provides annual, bi-annual and 6-month inspection and testing services. Our teams are certified by the FDNY and trained to not only keep your business safe, but up to code and in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
Some of the types of businesses we inspect include, but are not limited to industrial paint booth fire systems, commercial kitchens and restaurant systems, computer server rooms, systems with sensitive electronic equipment and more.
Fire Alarm Maintenance
All components of your fire alarm system must be inspected regularly by a certified technician.
From the control panel, fuses and LED’s, as well as heat, smoke and duct detectors, must be maintained. Additionally visual and audible alarm signals must be inspected as well, all according to NFPA 72, Chapter 14.
Depending on your system, visual inspections may be required as often as once a week. Some inspections can be done yourself. Metro Fire Control can guide you on how to self-inspect your fire alarms, but at some point, we’ll need to come out and give it a thorough, professional inspection and approval.
All fire alarm systems must be tested to ensure proper function. Most components only require annual testing, though a few will require semiannual testing. We’ll let you know which to do and when.
We’ll conduct a thorough test by certified professionals, making sure that all detectors and fire alarm signals are working and communicating properly. We test power sources, including the battery backup, to ensure it’s all functioning properly. If you use a monitoring company for emergencies, we will verify that an alarm signal successfully reaches them.
Emergency & Exit Lighting
Hotels, theaters and public areas, as well as commercial offices, often have emergency and safety lighting. You may be accountable for keeping these lights operational and effective. Even if a light continues to work, if it isn’t lighting properly, you can be held responsible. Even worse, it can cause injury to your guests or staff.
Metro Fire Control will inspect and give recommendations for all your lighting systems and dark areas. We’ll install the right lighting systems so you stay compliant and safe.
